Outdoors Access Organizations and Groups Call on President Biden to Designate Chuckwalla National Monument in Joint Letter

On the eve of the California Desert Protection Act’s 30th anniversary– a 1994 landmark law that established the first safeguards to protect these lands– a group of 47 local organizations and businesses focused on facilitating access to the outdoors have sent a joint letter to President Joe Biden urging him to use his power under the Antiquities Act to designate the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument in the California desert.

On the World Stage, California Tribal Leaders Call on President Biden to Designate National Monuments in the Face of Unprecedented Threats to Biodiversity

Tribal leaders from throughout California called on President Biden to designate three new national monuments in the state in order to protect sacred Tribal lands and cultural landscapes and imperiled biodiversity. Tribal members issued their call to action from Cali, Colombia, where they are participating in the 16th United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity (COP16). The three proposed national monuments include Sáttítla National Monument, Chuckwalla National Monument, and Kw’tsán National Monument.
