COALITION - Protect Chuckwalla National Monument

THE PROTECT CALIFORNIA
DESERTS COALITION

Tribes led the effort to create Chuckwalla National Monument, including the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, the Fort Yuma Quechan Indian Tribe, the Cahuilla Band of Indians, the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, the Colorado River Indian Tribes, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, and the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. The effort was supported by the cities of Banning, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Palm Springs, local elected officials, 300+ businesses, business groups, and Chambers of Commerce, and residents of the eastern Coachella Valley and neighboring areas. The California Legislature also passed a bipartisan resolution in support of the monument.

Protect California Deserts is a coalition of local organizations that, along with regional and national organizations, are working in support of Chuckwalla National Monument. Chuckwalla National Monument honors Tribal sovereignty, boosts the local economy, protects places where people hike, camp, and drive off-highway vehicles, and honors the area’s military history.

We invite the community to be a part of our movement. Join us in supporting Chuckwalla National Monument so that current and future generations can enjoy this special place.
