Quechan Tribe seeks protection of sacred lands with national monument at Indian Pass
Quechan tribal members Elan and Donald Medart were excited for the opportunity to see some of their tribe’s most significant lands along Haquita — known to the greater world as the Colorado River — from the air. The day was especially noteworthy for Elan, who’s 14, because it was his first-ever flight over the rugged peaks and washes of Indian Pass, about 30 miles north of here.

Vet Voice Foundation (VVF) released a new report highlighting the importance of national monuments and public lands to military and veteran communities in California. The report features veterans across the state urging the Biden Administration to designate or expand five national monuments.

One of President Joe Biden’s endeavors that can be fairly described as awesome is his “30 by 30” initiative to conserve and protect 30% of America’s land and water by 2030. Currently, just 12% falls into the protected category. The key question: Where do we find the rest and how do we protect it? Designating additional national monuments provides one way, with choices available from coast to coast.

Now, the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument aims to expand the protected area and make a positive impact on everything that lives there.
As a Brigadier General, I implore President Biden to designate the Chuckwalla Monument
Today, I urge the Biden administration to continue their commitment to public lands and public service by designating the Chuckwalla National Monument and protecting public lands adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park in the California desert.
